All My Sons

A good review for Calbaptist's All My Sons and according to Mark Wyatt, "powerful"(an off the record overheard quote). The Theater Department at California Baptist University has moved into a new age. Right away this can be seen in the set which is well done and brings the story alive as the actors unveil the story. Lee and Krista are bringing some amazing things to the program there. They add in talented students and stories arise with purpose. Krista began the show by talking about the content of the show, prefacing how there may be parts of the show that could be difficult. More importantly the story can move from being harmful to having a purpose. And that is what she focused in on about Joe and the other characters lives and how their purposes impacted their lives.
In todays world the language of the masses is stories but it seems as though it is hard to find meaning in the many stories that pass by not knowing what they are saying about life. I'm not saying every movie we watch should have some like note of preface but maybe this what stories are for, that their purpose is to have purpose. So we can find it helpful to know this as to not be harmed by random interactions without any thought of what were seeing. I think especially for children to know its not just harmless fun which is something the next generation needs to defend themselves. It is great to see that they are building this into the program.

these are two things that would not go well with an uncompromising faith that has a decided stance

two things i have in my character

i think they express themselves moreover in my relationships

i compromise my likes and dislikes for others dislikes and likes.

thats not making decisions but being in an undecided state.

following Christ requires a decided position - in those places where there is no decision for example on whether not to love someone then the decisiveness of the truth of Christ gets compromised

that is something i learned about myself: i am tempted to put people above christ

when moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it in Numbers 20 the Lord said " Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them" somewhere along the line they(addressed to Aaron also) thought they knew what they were doing... they did get the water.
God is so holy that even in our best moments of knowing what to do we still need to go to him
there is more to holiness than i have seen and thought about before

my ending thought is there may be smaller things in life that compromise belief in a Holy God

DINOSAURS

Dinosaurs, only 45min from riverside off the ten freeway. I remember a few movies with these things in them and decided to go check em out. There was always something surreal about those scenes, an oddity forming from the ground in the middle of the desert.
These are made out of concrete, who knew. I didn't and now you do.

iron man

















Iron Man, Robert Downy Jr.,Tony Stark, Flying,Shooting the Bad Guys.
Friday night before graduation I was on my way back to campus at 11pm after hangin with Rachel and decided to go to the theater to see Iron Man.
I was 5 min late and missed a little of the beginning, but I think only missed the part where he got shot up. What is it about a man who changes his heart to caring about how he impacts the world that makes him compelling. What makes an audience cheer when the evil is taken out?

Iron Man is a badass

He flies in a mechanical suit defying human limitations, he has a stare of determination, of im going use the power of this gift to do something cool. Jesus is badass too. Do we like these stories because somewhere inside us we know we need someone to save us?

movie review


....going to atempt to do a movie review. Blogging has been a good thing. Ive realized it takes time to make a polished thought and it is a skill to write well. 
Street Kings. 
After seeing the trailer I thought I would check it out. I didn't realize it was made by David Ayer who Im starting to like a lot. He has written more than he has directed. He wrote Training Day and S.W.A.T.  I think I like the movies he has directed more than those two. I like his independent directing style. The beginning of the movie  there was no dialog and was of the main character waking up and going to "work". In movies the visuals sometime needs to tell the story more than what is said. For me movies start to go bad when someone is constantly talking in the movie, but I think that works for a comedy. Next Keanu "tom" finds some evil men. He goes into their house kills them then finds two girls locked in a small cage. I thought during that moment of sex trafficking. Sometimes when you hear about what is going on in that you want to go grab a gun and go rescue some people. I wonder about where the line is in seeking justice? I heard about a woman who was in Thailand and found  young children in a brothel and snuck in and stole them then started an orphanage with them in a different place. The story came from The Passion Conference. Francis Chan came up and spoke after they told that story and then began to break our hearts with his intensity about... I cant really remember the scripture he spoke of, how sad is that. 
Well on with the review. I thought the movie did good talking about justice and also secrets. One of the characters says "Im the king of secrets". Made me think of the secrets I keep. Paul talks about Christ followers having unveiled faces reflecting the Lord's glory. 2nd Corinthians 3:12-18, I don't know exactly what that means I was just thinking about how the sin in our lives are often from the secrets in our lives and are we supposed to be in the open so others can see His glory in us? 
Last thing it was interesting experience at the movies. I was thinking a lot about what movies are to me but what about to other people? In the last scene there was a confrontation and fighting and some people where laughing. They were young men who might identify different with killing, drinking and cops. As I was thinking about justice and secrets where they having a totally different experience?  
One last thing, I had this whole experience that I would say turned out good but I spent it alone, and yet I had an experience that was about connection. These three years have turned out  a lot different than I thought. I guess I thought I would understand a little more about myself. I have but just different than I thought.  I don't know why movies give me this kind of experience that allows me to contemplate large things but I hope to continue to be just who I am. 

May not be a movie for you considering the killing and the drugs and the more killing but not so pointless killing.. 
the casting is kinda funny to.. the british [H]ouse actor and three comedians but I like getting past things and finding the story. it worked

I ran into Carson who keeps me accountable in blogging, "blog accountability" there is a first for everything Carson. 
Then I ran into Carly, John "Walk the Talk" Walker  and I should know his name. Nothing better  than to tell a man with a camera to take a photo of you.-----edit-----.I checked my mail and got a letter from my family who each wrote me a note. Its hard being away from them but the notes were like saying "we are going to be ok without you, keep doing what your doing and we are glad your there." 
A few more months and ill be a college graduate, its been probably more than I can say to be around such cool people here. May my pride leave me and never return.  There is definitely a lot on my mind with transitioning to another part in my life. Have a nice Spring Break, do something I wouldn't do.

The break thats not really a break...


My Grandpa Kasten, looks alot like my brother. He is getting old so I went to his house to spend some time with him. It was interesting to hear him talk about his life. He was a fireman and a photographer. His wife loved animals and they have donated alot money to zoos over their life. Their names show up at the san diego zoo in different places. Its cool to hear about the past and see how it may have affected the future. I love my family im glad i was able to spend time with them. This wasnt always the case. God is good.
His place was like entering into the 60's.
